Due to the latest Government advice to suspend all non-essential social contact and travel due to Covid-19, we have made the decision to cancel the Mind Charity Football tournament organised for May 22nd and the Well-being Triathlon on June 7th. The safety and well-being of our community is vital at this time. We will soon be contacting individuals who have booked tickets in advance for the Well-being Triathlon, and if you have any questions about the cancellations please email committee@friendsofcastlepark.net.

Our monthly Re-Engage afternoon teas have also been suspended for the time being. We want to ensure that our guests have the regular support and contact that they usually receive; our dedicated volunteers also want to continue to support the older people in the group. We have been working with Re-Engage to create a phone “buddying” system between volunteers and guests while the group is suspended, and this is now up and running. As Re-Engage adapts in the face of Covid-19 they will be letting people know about new volunteering roles and other ways to support via the e-news. Please sign up to their e-news here: https://www.reengage.org.uk/sign-up/.

Welcome to the Friends of Castle Park website, a hub for news, activities and events in your local park. We will be following the exciting progress of the Castle Park Project as it transforms in to the ultimate community park supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

In 2017, an initial £250,000 was awarded through the Parks for People Programme (The National Lottery Heritage Fund). This enabled East Herts Council and their partners, Bishops Stortford Town Council and the Countryside Management Service to develop detailed plans to enhance and improve Castle Park.

Early in 2019 we were delighted to receive a grant of £1.9m, awarded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund for the project. Vast improvements are planned to ensure accessibility, diversity and community engagement, whilst raising awareness and interest in the rich heritage of Castle Park.

The Friends of Castle Park are always looking for new members – get in touch if you are interested in joining

There are multiple activities as part of the project and something for everyone to participate in and enjoy. There are currently four annual events:

  • Wellbeing Triathlon
  • Goodness in the Park
  • Wildlife Day
  • Heritage Day

The Friends of Castle Park would be delighted to receive new ideas and are open to adding monthly events to the calendar as well as larger annual events.
