Welcome to the Friends of Castle Park website!

Welcome to the Friends of Castle Park website, a hub for news, activities and events in your local park. We will be following the exciting progress of Castle Park as it transforms in to the ultimate community park funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Friends of Castle Park will also showcase the many diverse ways to become involved in Castle Park to ensure it is a Park for all.

In 2017, an initial £250,000 was awarded through the Parks for People Programme (The National Lottery Heritage Fund). This enabled East Herts Council and their partners, including Bishops Stortford Town Council and Hertfordshire County Councils Countryside Management Service, to develop detailed plans of ways to enhance and improve Castle Park.

Early in 2019 we were delighted to receive a grant of £1.9m, awarded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund for the project. Vast improvements are planned to the park to ensure accessibility, diversity and community engagement whilst raising awareness and interest in the rich heritage of Castle Park.

The Friends of Castle Park are always looking for new members – get in touch if you would like to join us.

Community Archaeological Dig, 26th-30th August & 2nd-6th September 2019 – We are looking for volunteers to support the FOCP community archaeological digs…a great opportunity to learn new skills and help to unearth the town’s history. To book a time slot please fill in the form Community Digs Sign Up and email committee@friendsofcastlepark.net.  Please note, this event is only open to volunteers aged 18 years and over.

The Friends of Castle Park wish to hear from anyone who is interested in joining our group; there are varying activities so there is something for everyone to participate in and enjoy. We currently have four annual events:

  • Wellbeing Triathlon
  • Goodness in the Park
  • Wildlife Day
  • Heritage Day

The Friends of Castle Park would be delighted to receive new ideas and are open to adding monthly events to our calendar as well as larger annual events.
